charism
[noun]
A spiritual gift, ability, talent, or grace. Gifted to each of us by the Holy Spirit, our unique charisms enable God’s loving presence to flow freely into the world. Like a beautiful mosaic, charisms work together to unite a community and transform the world.
“There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit,” Paul explains to the Corinthians. To one, a gift of wisdom may be bestowed while another, compassion, prophecy or a sense of justice. No one is overlooked by the Holy Spirit, and no charism is more important than another.
What matters is how we choose to use our gifts in the service of love. A charism does not define who we are or what we do, but rather how and why we do it.
Here’s how to recognize your charism:
- You experience a deep sense of peace, energy, joy, or natural flow when using your gift.
- Using your gift yields positive results and amplifies the gifts of others.
- The people around you recognize the presence of the gift(s) within you.
Dear God,
Thank you for the blessing of my charisms and of those of the people around me. Every gift you have bestowed in me and everyone around me reminds me of Your love for us. Help me use my gifts for a greater good, and serve as a reminder of Your presence in this world. Amen.
