spirituality

Being attentive to the human spirit and to the transcendental (or what is beyond our physical world). Every religion offers spiritual practices. In Christianity, the focus is on God’s transcendence as it is revealed through Jesus Christ—and the practices that draw us closer to God’s love.

Everyday spiritual practices—like how we pray, participate in the sacraments, care for our neighbors, fast or give alms—nourish us as we walk in our faith. They are meant to support us, challenge us, and inspire us to become more Christ-like.

Spiritual growth is an essential part of our faith life: it’s how our personal relationship with God changes and deepens over time. Spiritual practices invite us to slow down and shift our attention to what matters most. These practices also invite us to listen and accompany each other (rather than judge). To love more freely. And to remember that even when things seem hard, God is still at work in our lives.

God’s invitation is always there and open to everyone. It’s up to us to respond.

Prayer for Today

Dear God,

You are here in each person that I encounter. Help me  stay present and  recognize You in everything. I want to be consistent and disciplined in my spiritual practices to grow in my faith journey and stay close to You. Hold me closer to find meaning and purpose. And, help me recognize your invitations to grow in my spiritual life. Amen.

What is a spiritual experience that can bring you closer to God today?

“Spirituality has to do with one’s connection and commitment to ways of engaging with transcendence: ultimate aims, ultimate goals … how we try to live our lives, our piety, our virtues. ”
