rosary
[Noun]
What is a rosary and why do people pray it?
A meditative prayer object made of beads and a crucifix that is used to meditate on Scripture. The Rosary is a traditional Catholic Marian prayer in which the mysteries of life, death, and resurrection of Jesus are contemplated. As the mother of the redeemer, Mary invites us to draw near through this powerful prayer, to strengthen our spiritual life.
What is the history of the rosary prayer?
According to Catholic faith, in the mid-13th century, the Virgin Mary appeared to Saint Domingo de Guzmán holding a rosary. She taught him how to pray and asked him to spread the practice of praying the rosary throughout the world, which he did.
In other apparitions, Our Lady has shared certain promises for those who pray the Rosary frequently and with devotion. Among them is the salvation of their souls.
Why do people find healing in the rosary?
The Rosary is a Catholic prayer that feels like a raft that comes to help us in the stormy ocean of our souls. In the midst of a crisis, as we meditate on the life of Jesus through the mysteries, we can recognize ourselves in Him—in His goodness, His glory, and His human frailty.
At the same time, Mary is present in all of the mysteries in Jesus’ life. She embraces each moment with grace and love. As we recite the Hail Mary on each bead with faith, we can feel how Mary accompanies and embraces us, gently calming our hearts, our anxiety and giving us peace of mind.

Prayer for Today
Dear God,
There is nothing You cannot resolve. When I need You the most, You are always there, guiding me with mercy toward what my soul needs. Praying the Holy Rosary brings me peace when I feel I can’t go on anymore. Thank you, Lord, for bringing me closer to You and to Jesus, and for sending this beautiful gift through our spiritual Mother, Mary and for teaching me that Your love is infinite and eternal. Amen.
A prayer to Mary
Dear Mother Mary,
We fly to your protection,
O Holy Mother of God;
Do not despise our petitions
in our necessities,
but deliver us always
from every danger,
O Glorious and Blessed Virgin.
How do you feel after praying the rosary?
“The Rosary is the most beautiful prayer we can offer to the Virgin Mary,” and it is “a weapon that protects us from evil and temptation.”
– Pope Francis
