shepherd

A trusted guide who offers a sense of belonging, safety, and direction. A shepherd walks alongside the flock, singing and whistling to them, tending to their needs, and guiding them to greener pastures. A good shepherd leads you home.

Jesus gives us the image of the good shepherd because trust is at the core of their relationship. The sheep come to recognize and trust the shepherd’s voice. They understand that that voice cares for them, protects them, prioritizes them, and knows them by name. This is how Jesus invites us to live out our faith: accompanying those who feel lost and offering them compassion.

It can be hard to hear God’s gentle voice. The world is too noisy. Too full of pain. Too confusing. But together we can amplify the good shepherd’s song. We can remind each other—and ourselves—that there is hope. There is refuge. There is love.

Each of us can be a good shepherd, helping others find their way home to God.

Prayer for Today

Dear God,

Help me hear Your voice in the chaos of this world. Guide me to be a good shepherd in my home, in my community, and at my workplace. Help amplify Your message of hope so that my actions and my words may become a place of hope, love, and refuge for those who need You the most.

What actions can you take today to be a good shepherd?

“I am the good shepherd, and I know mine and mine know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I will lay down my life for the sheep.”

John 10: 14-15
