good shepherd
[sustantivo]
A good shepherd is a trusted guide who offers a sense of belonging, safety, and direction. A good shepherd walks alongside the flock, singing and whistling to them, tending to their needs, and guiding them to greener pastures. A good shepherd always leads you home.
Jesus as good shepherd
Jesus gives us the image of the good shepherd for the Catholic Church because trust is at the core of their relationship. The sheep come to recognize and trust the shepherd’s voice. They understand that that voice cares for them, protects them, prioritizes them, and knows them by name.
This is how Jesus invites us to live out our faith: accompanying those who feel lost and offering them compassion.
How we can be good shepherds too
It can be hard to hear God’s gentle voice. The world is too noisy. Too full of pain. Too confusing. But together we can amplify the good shepherd’s song. We can remind each other—and ourselves—that there is hope. There is refuge. There is love.
Juan 10: 14-15
