A Novena of Hope: Over 1,000 Gather in Prayer for Migrants

More than a thousand people have come together in a powerful national novena, uniting in faith and prayer for migrants and immigrants. Hosted by the Bernardin Center at Catholic Theological Union (CTU) in Chicago, the novena runs from March 14 to 22 and features reflections from nine bishops and archbishops across the United States.

Each day, participants join via Zoom to pray and learn about Catholic organizations supporting immigrants. Cardinal Blase Cupich will lead the final session on March 22.

Steven Millies, director of the Bernardin Center, emphasized the urgent need for spiritual support in a time when many migrants feel vulnerable. “We may not be able to offer direct aid, but we can convene people in prayer and give them a sense of mission,” he said.

The overwhelming response—from enthusiastic bishops to eager registrants—reflects the deep desire within the Catholic community to stand in solidarity with migrants. As Pope Francis has long urged, the Church is called to recognize the human dignity of all people and offer pastoral care to those in need.
